Problems after trying to rremove Total Security av.exe virus.  Lost association to exe as an application in registry
While trying to remove an infection by Total Securty av.exe virus I broke the association of exe to applications and I am now having problems starting programs installed, even after reinstalling them. Sometimes when I use the Folder Options / FiileTypes / New to create a new link between exe and applications my programs will start but the next time I start up my computer I have the same [problem. I quite often receive a warning that rundll cannot be found as well,2 people need an answerI do too

Sounds like you are still infected. Follow the instructions below. You may have to continue resetting the exe file association until all infections are removed. There is no need to replace the run32.dll until then since it will probably just get corrupted again. 1. Click Here to download HJTsetup.exe: 2. Click on "Download Now" 3. Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop. 4. Double click on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This. 5. Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Additional Tasks dialogue. 6. Put a check mark in the box to Create a desktop icon then click Next again. Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there. 7. At the final dialogue box, click Finish. Hijack This will launch. 8. Click on the "Do a system scan and save a log" file button. The scan will ensue and a log file will be generated at the conclusion. 9. At the top of the log file click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log. 10. Come back here to this topic and Paste the log in your next reply. DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required. DO NOT install or uninstall anything or otherwise make changes to your computer until we are finished with this process. Hi that's all well and good but I have a similar problem (XP) and can't download anything to help as I can't open the exe files.....Your issue is obviously related to the malware. You can re-associate your exe files simply by running the command below. However, Hijack This log files are no longer permitted on this forum. You can post your issue on the free forum on the link below if you wish. You will have to create an account to post. There is no fee involved.Click start > run > type cmd > press Enter. On the command line type assoc.exe=exefile > press Enter.Free forum : Repair-Bots OnlineI don't vote for myself I'm not here for the points. If this post helps you, vote.
